OpSail 2000 (Operation Sail 2000) was a tall ship show which visited ports on the East Coast ports of Baltimore MD, Philidelphia PA, New York NY, New London CT, and Boston MA. Tall ships from around the world participated such as Brazil, Chile, Russia, Ukraine to name a few. In New York there were over 150 tallships which attended the event which culminated in one of the largest firework displays on earth on July 4th. The pictures below are from OpSail 2000's stopover in New London, CT. Over 60 tallships participated. Note, New London is home to the US Coast Guard Academy, US Navy's submarine port and training center for nuclear submarines, as well as Electric Boat (EB) which makes the SeaWolf nuclear attack submarine. Pzifer Pharmaceutical is also based in New London and has an extensive research and manufacturing facility. From New London you can take a ferry to Block Island RI, Long Island NY, and Martha's Vineyard. |
